Not just a "phulka"
Inspired by the humble phulka, this design project of mine took an unexpected turn.
The material selected is wool, and the technique is hand felting.
Being from the south, hand felting was an extremely new process to me, and something that I learnt a lot from.
The final garments are my take on a "phulka" inspired garment.
The garment retains the natural colour of felted wool, giving it a look of lightness.
Initial Form Ideas
Material Learning and Form Building
Since wool by itself was a relatively new material for me to work with, the initial stages of the project involved a lot of interesting trials and experiences.
The behaviour of the material, although known to me in theory, was fascinating to watch in real life.
Soon after understanding the process, I started to build the form that I wanted. Multiple trials, failures and calculations later, I was finally able to achieve variation in the form that I desired.
